DUET Signs MoU with NETS to Enhance Industry-Academia Collaboration

Dawood University of Engineering and Technology (DUET) has taken a significant step towards bridging the gap between academic learning and industry practice by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with NETS International Communication Ltd., a renowned public limited company operating in Pakistan, the United Kingdom, Germany, and the Middle East.
This partnership, made possible through the dedicated efforts of DUET’s Director ICT, Dr. Izhar Zaidi, is poised to bring transformative opportunities for the students of DUET. As part of the MoU, NETS has agreed to sponsor a hackathon at the university, offering students the chance to engage in real-world problem-solving through hands-on, practical experience.
In addition to the hackathon, NETS expressed keen interest in offering both internship and job opportunities to DUET students, paving the way for promising career prospects in the national and international tech landscape.
An exciting component of the collaboration includes the integration of industry-led instruction into the academic framework. While DUET faculty will continue to deliver the core 45 lectures out of a standard 48-lecture semester, the remaining three will be conducted by industry professionals from NETS. This blend of academic and industrial perspectives is expected to significantly enrich the learning experience of students.
NETS will also conduct specialized seminars to help students understand current industrial trends, challenges, and emerging opportunities, further preparing them for dynamic professional environments.
To ensure effective coordination of all joint initiatives, the Directorate of Industrial Liaison and Placement Bureau (DILPB) at DUET will serve as the central point of contact.
The NETS delegation was led by Chief Executive Officer Muhammad Nadeem, accompanied by Regional Sales Manager Yasir Zeeshan and Key Account Manager Shumaila Shaheen. DUET was represented by Dean Faculty of Information & Computing Sciences Prof. Dr. Atif Jamil, Director ICT Dr. Izhar Zaidi, Director DILPB Dr. Dawood Idress, and Director CPD Dr. Zubair Soomro.
This collaboration marks a promising beginning toward nurturing innovation and strengthening ties between academia and industry, reinforcing DUET’s vision of producing future-ready engineers.
