Karachi, August 29, 2023 – The Caretaker provincial minister for mines and minerals, Mir Khuda Baksh Mari, embarked on a visit to the Dawood University of Engineering and Technology on Tuesday, August 29. During this significant event, the esteemed minister inaugurated state-of-the-art High-Tech Performance Computer Laboratories and explored modern laboratories in the fields of materials and metallurgy, energy, and electronics. The visit was marked by a collaboration agreement between Dawood University and the Ministry of Minerals.
Upon the minister’s arrival, he was warmly welcomed by the Vice Chancellor, Engr. Prof. Dr. Samreen Hussain (TI), who presented a bouquet as a gesture of hospitality. Also present were Agha Abdul Rahim, Secretary of the Department of Mines and Mineral Resources, Director Rashid, Director Sohail Sarwar, and other officials from the ministry. Among the notable attendees from Dawood University were Prof. Dr. Abdul Wahid Bhutto, the Pro Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Syed Asif Ali Shah, the Registrar, Deans, and Chairpersons.
Mir Khuda Baksh Mari inaugurated the new High-Tech Performance Computer Laboratories at the university. A significant aspect of this visit was the collaboration between Dawood University and the Ministry of Minerals in fields including chemical engineering, metallurgy and materials engineering, energy and environment, artificial intelligence, computer science, and electronics engineering. Additionally, discussions were held about future roadmaps for the petroleum and gas sector.
Both institutions expressed their commitment to opening pathways of cooperation by aligning their respective disciplines. The Ministry intends to fund the establishment of modern laboratories under their CSR funds.
Following the laboratory tour, an event was held in the seminar hall where Vice Chancellor Engr. Prof. Dr. Samreen Hussain (TI) addressed the attendees. She expressed gratitude to the provincial minister, Mir Khuda Baksh Mari, for personally reaching out to Dawood University and bridging the gap between academia and government. She emphasized that Dawood University is not solely dependent on government grants but aims to become a hub of innovation and generation of intellectual capital.
Speaking during the event, Minister Mir Khuda Baksh Mari appreciated the vision of Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Samreen Hussain, which highlights the notion that institutions should not rely on government grants but should instead become self-sustaining centers of excellence. He stressed that if all institutions adhere to this principle, Pakistan can naturally overcome its challenges. The laboratories and facilities at Dawood University are indeed impressive, and the minister expressed confidence in the university’s expertise benefiting the fields of mines and mineral resources.
The visit concluded on a positive note, highlighting the growing collaboration between academic institutions and government bodies to promote technological advancements and innovative research within the country.
