Financial Assistance Development
Message from the Director
The students from impoverished backgrounds are continuously under financial strain. The effects of the weak economy caused by social and family concerns have exacerbated many households' economic woes. Assistantships that cover tuition and living expenses may allow students to concentrate on their education rather than on the ramifications of the deplorable economy. Additionally, students can save valuable time by concentrating on their studies rather than working part-time. Scholarships may thus alleviate financial strain on students and their families.
At Dawood University of Engineering and Technology Karachi, the Financial Assistance Department (FAD) administers the student scholarships activities since 2019, to facilitate students who are not able to pay their fee due to financial circumstances. The FAD offers a variety of scholarships throughout the year. The records of needy students, particularly orphans and those from underprivileged areas, are kept, and assistance is provided to such students on a first-come, first-served basis. Additionally, each semester, the in-house merit scholarship is presented to the department heads.
The Financial Assistance Department (FAD) of Dawood University of Engineering & Technology (DUET) was established with a clear and essential vision—to ensure that no student discontinues their education due to financial constraints. Since its inception, the department has remained steadfast in its mission to make higher education accessible and inclusive, supporting students through need-based and merit-based financial assistance programs.
Over the years, FAD has successfully collaborated with more than 20 esteemed funding agencies, enabling hundreds of deserving students to continue their academic pursuits with dignity. These partnerships reflect DUET’s commitment to building an equitable academic environment.
In Fall 2023, under the visionary leadership of the Honorable Vice Chancellor, Dr. Samreen Hussain (T.I., S.I.), DUET introduced the DUET Scholarship Program—a landmark initiative financed entirely through the university’s own institutional resources. This program offers a total of 300 scholarships at the time of admission and will continue based upon the merit criteria as per policy , it comprising:
• 150 Seat for 100% Tuition Fee Scholarships
• 150 Seats for 50% Tuition Fee Scholarships
These scholarships are awarded to students meeting strict merit-cum-need criteria and are valid for the entire four-year academic program, subject to continued academic performance and eligibility. The DUET Scholarship has so far been awarded to two cohorts: Fall 2023 (Batch 23F) and Fall 2024 (Batch 24F).
For the academic year 2024–2025, a total of 1,236 students out of 3,079—representing 40.14% of the student population—benefited from financial assistance. This milestone is a testament to DUET’s ongoing dedication to removing financial barriers in education.
